Who is Rami Kim?

Rami Kim is a contemporary multimedia artist who is currently based in Los Angeles, California. She is most prominently known for being an award-winning animator and a very sucessful sculptor. Her ceramic works are unique because they are whimsical and playful, yet maintain thier sophisticated qualities as well (as shown in the images below). When asked about her ceramic works, Kim responded "I was interested in making things that are functional, but at the same time they can be also art pieces when they are not in use".

I chose Rami Kim to be my inspiration for my final ceramics project because I found her online and was instantly fascinated with her sculptures and functional pieces. Specifically, I fell in love with her porcelain figurines. They were unlike any tiny sculptures I had ever seen before. I incorporated Rami Kim's style into my "Phenomenal Figurines" by expressing the playful style of her figurines through my own. I did this by sculpting figurines that mimicked the varying shapes that Kim uses in her figurines (e.g ones with only a torso, ones with no arms, ones with just a head, etc.). I truly love Rami Kim's artwork and I am so glad that I was able to learn about her and be inspired by her for this project.
